Philanthropy — What Is a Community Endowment Fund?
A community endowment fund thinks beyond a single project to build a lasting financial foundation for the Lithuanian community in the UK.

When we talk about supporting a community, we usually think about a specific project.
Funding is needed for an event. A school. A camp. A cultural project. Premises. Or another community initiative.
Sponsors are found, funds are raised, the project is delivered — and the following year, the process often starts again from the beginning.
The idea of a community endowment fund is different.
Its purpose is to think not only about one project, but about building a long-term financial foundation for the community.
build capital → manage it responsibly → strengthen the community over time.
Instead of using all support immediately, part of the capital built by the community can be preserved and managed with a long-term perspective.
The aim is to create a resource that does not depend on one individual, one organisation or one generation.
This is close to the widely used concept of an endowment — long-term capital designed to support a mission over time.
The most important thing is not simply the size of the fund.
The most important thing is continuity.
If a community succeeds in building a lasting financial foundation, it could in the future provide greater stability for Lithuanian schools, cultural and heritage projects, youth initiatives and other community activities.
But a model like this can only work if it is built on trust.
That is why we believe the following are just as important as the capital itself:
- transparency
- responsible stewardship
- clear decision-making rules
- a strong governance culture
Lithuanian Community Fund UK is currently developing its final financial and legal model.
For that reason, we are not yet presenting a final investment strategy or setting out future grant amounts.
First, we want to build a trusted structure.
Then, capital.
And only then, long-term impact.
Our ambition is simple:
to help the Lithuanian community in the United Kingdom think not only about what we can fund today, but also about what we can leave for tomorrow.
