Founding Story
Why We Are Building the Lithuanian Community Fund UK
The Lithuanian community in the United Kingdom has been built over decades. This is the story of why we are creating a long-term fund to support it.

The Lithuanian community in the United Kingdom has been built over decades.
Lithuanian schools, cultural events, community organisations, youth initiatives, sports clubs and many other projects exist because of people who give their time, energy, knowledge and often their own personal resources.
But alongside this, we see a recurring challenge.
Many valuable initiatives depend on a small number of active individuals, one-off sponsors or short-term funding. When teams change, circumstances shift or financial conditions become more difficult, even important and successful projects can struggle.
That led us to a simple question:
What can we build today that could still support the Lithuanian community in 10, 20 or 50 years?
This is where the idea of the Lithuanian Community Fund UK began to take shape.
Our aim is not to replace existing Lithuanian organisations. Quite the opposite — we want to help create a long-term foundation that could strengthen them in the future.
We see the Fund as a form of community financial and institutional capital — a structure that could bring together support from individuals, families, businesses and partners, manage those resources responsibly and, over time, help fund what matters to our community.
- Education.
- Culture and heritage.
- Youth and future generations.
- Community initiatives.
We want to move from asking:
“How do we fund the next project?”
to a broader question:
“What can we leave to the next generation?”
Lithuanian Community Fund UK is currently in its founding stage. We are developing the Fund’s governance, legal and long-term funding structure, building the founding team and speaking with people who share this vision.
This is the beginning.
And that is exactly why we believe it is important to build the Fund openly — from the very first steps.
